The Problems Of Moped And Scooter Insurance

One of the more expensive types of motorbike insurances are scooter and moped insurance. They come in all shapes and sizes but range between 49cc and 125cc engines. They are defined as having a step through frame and come with an automatic twist and go gearbox.
Scooters and Mopeds can be ridden on a Full car licence passed before 31st January 2001 up to 50cc, and on a CBT for everything up to a 125cc engine.
To ride a Moped or Scooter you will normally first need to pass the Compulsory Basic Training (CBT), a simple day course teaching you all you need to know to ride your moped or scooter. You can normally obtain moped insurance to insure yourself on your own vehicle to pass this training, but normally use the test centres own scooters and mopeds.
The main problem with scooter and moped insurance, are thieves; these types of bike are the most likely to be stolen, which in turn increases the cost of insurance for everyone. Security on bikes can only do so much, but when the vehicle is lifted into a van, an alarm has no effect. In addition, a large majority of these vehicles have alternative starters, such as kick-starts, making the job for thieves even easier. This strengthens the importance of a brick built garage, and the discounts associated with your insurance.
Modifications can affect your insurance hugely due to the vehicles already being a high theft risk, a modified bike to either improve its looks or performance is only going to stand out to thieves even more than normal. A common modification is to de-restrict the bike, increasing its top speed from the manufacturers’ original design; this can have large effects on your moped insurance, even causing many insurers to refuse cover.
Mopeds and scooters tend to appeal to the younger riders aged 16 and upwards, mainly as it is a cheap form of transport for them, that does not require any training and is a good road experience for when they move on to a car. However, due to their age, this increases the cost of their insurance. This is why many young riders opt for Third party only cover to reduce the cost.
Another common use for these vehicles are riders who are looking to complete the knowledge on London roads. This is due to the traffic conditions in London, using a scooter can make getting around a lot faster. Your insurance may be affected slightly due to the increased mileage on the policy but not for using the vehicle for that purpose. Moreover, these vehicles are very economical, making the cost of the miles for the knowledge a lot cheaper than in a car, even with the increasing fuel costs.
Since the London congestion charge came into force on 17th February 2003, there has been an increase in all motorcycle insurance as these types of vehicle are exempt from the congestion charge, saving you on average 40 pounds a week. These vehicles are also excellent for commuting to and from work, whether it is city or country riding, they cut out the traffic and are very easy to park.
Although insurance seems cheaper due to the engine size of the scooter or moped, the risk of theft increases the insurance enough to make the policy more expensive than a normal motorcycle that may be faster on the road. However, the appeal comes from the fact that the training to ride a scooter is so cheap, and a lot quicker than a full test.

Reasons for Hiring Bicycle Accident Attorney

Have you been injured on a bicycle due to a defective road or negligent motorist while riding your way to a friend’s house? If so, then you have possibly gone through the excruciating phase of your life. In cases like these, you need to consult a bicycle accident attorney.

These legal professionals specialize in defending the rights of people who have been in biking accidents. They know and understand bicycle riding laws and other related accident cases.

Because of the exhaustive nature of bicycle accident claims, the assistance of this type of lawyer must be sought.

If you or your loved one has been involved in a bike accident, it is a good idea for you to contact a lawyer sooner rather than later. There are various reasons to do this.

First of all, in bicycle accident cases, the motorist is frequently at fault. Although cyclists are expected to follow the rules of the road, car drivers too often ignore bikes and fail to give them enough space to maneuver compared to what they would give to another motor vehicle.

Many motorists fail to properly share the road with bicyclists. Hence, vehicle collisions often result.

Furthermore, a bike obviously offers much less protection than a motor vehicle. It is no match to most vehicles that may weigh up to thousands of pounds.

Obviously, the bicyclist is usually the one seriously injured if struck by a car. The injuries sustained may be very serious, while those in the car may have suffered without a single bruise.

Last, if you lack medical insurance, it’s especially important for you to contact a lawyer, as you may require long-term rehabilitation or multiple surgeries following a car-bike collision.

In addition, battles with insurance companies result in unfavorable settlements for bicyclists, motorists receiving as much as 40% higher compensation for damages.

Due to the dangerous nature of bicycle, injury causing accidents frequently happen. It occurs mainly because of these three common scenarios:

• reckless, belligerent or blindsided motorists

• swinging car doors

• jay walking pedestrians

The most common cause of bicycle accident is due to a negligent driver. The injured rider may be entitled for reimbursements to cover their medical bills, lost wages, rehabilitation, and permanent disability.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reveals that in 2005, 784 bicyclists were killed on roads in the U.S., most of them from crashes with motor vehicles. More than 540,000 people are being injured each year in bicycling accidents with about 67,000 suffering head injuries and 27,000 requiring hospitalization.

Victims of bicycle accidents must learn to preserve evidence and other pertinent documents. This is because well-preserved evidence will help ensure the fullest compensation available in cases of serious injury or wrongful death. It can be done by:

• taking pictures

• documenting the road and weather conditions

• recording data as to construction sites

• gathering detailed information regarding property damage

When an accident is caused by a negligent driver, the injured rider may demand reimbursement for medical bills, lost wages, rehabilitation, pain and suffering and permanent disability.

To protect your legal rights following severe injury or wrongful death resulting from a bicycle accident, it is best to immediately consult an experienced bicycle accident attorney.

Should You Buy a Scooter or Moped to Save on Gas? Buying a Cheap Scooter During Tough Times

Whereas buying a scooter used to seem like a far-fetched idea, or at least one that was only thought of by younger, more immature minds, the idea of owning that sleek and stylish moped or scooter is becoming more sane.  Perhaps it’s the insanity of gas prices that brings us to make justifications in our minds, or maybe just the thought of doing anything we can to save an extra buck, but either way, scooters are owning the streets like never before.

These gas saving two-wheelers are much quieter than they used to be as well and they look more like motorcycles than skateboards on steroids.  Whether it’s the fancy gas efficient Vespa or the more sporty Honda or Yamaha moped one desires, it’s usually the excuse for saving money on gas that prompts the decision, but the sheer fun of cruising one of these scooters around town is surely the concept that seals the deal.  Http://www.BuyMopedsNow.com has a great selection of both electric and gas scooters so I encourage you to check them out to find the right moped or scooter for you.

So what should you look for in a scooter?  Well, it mainly depends on your reason for getting one.  If you are in the market just because they look fun and you have the extra money to spare, you may want to check out the Honda or Suzuki scooters out there.  With 250cc engines these scooters can exceed speeds of 80mph, which I wouldn’t recommend in those little bikes by the way.

If you want to buy a moped just to fit in with those snooty neighbors who have been going green ever since those fluorescent CFL light-bulbs came out, then by all means, look into an electric scooter.  Not only is electricity much cheaper than gas, but the technology in electric scooters has improved exponentially over the past few years.  These electric scooters can now exceed speeds of 30mph and ride for over 30 miles before having to plugged in again.  With an electric scooter it’s one less trip to the gas station you have to make, so there is reprieve there as well.  And of course, your neighbors will beam with joy when they see your quiet little humming electric scooter pulling up into your driveway.  Honk with pride; you have gone green.

However, if you are like me, the reason you want a scooter is that you are just tired of spending so much money on gas, and ANY relief is welcomed.  And yes, the mere satisfaction of having a zippy little moped is nice too.  These gasoline scrooges can put away up to 80 miles before they fork out a gallon of gas.  Yes, that’s 80 miles to the gallon.  Not too shabby, even if you are a little late to work.  Which reminds me, you want to give yourself a little more time for wherever you are going.

If you don’t want to hassle with registering your scooter or moped then you will want to find a scooter that is under 50cc, because by law anything over that is pretty much treated like a motorcycle would be.  To avoid all that  nasty paperwork, get a 49cc scooter.  They can be surprisingly quiet compared to the common thoughts about them and have some pep in their step as well.  Anything going up to 35 mph is great.  After all, the goal is not to go just as fast as before to where ever you are going, it’s just to get there cheaper.  If you want to buy a cheap moped or scooter try the link below and look around to find just the right one that suits your needs and lifestyle.

Remember to see http://www.BuyMopedsNow.com for great deals on Scooters and Mopeds!

I am always looking for ways to save the consumer a few extra bucks. It’s important to be frugal but also to have a giving spirit.

Two Types of Electric Bicycles

The usage of electric bicycles is increasing day by day, like the price of fuels, since electric bicycles have a lot of advantages over other types of vehicles. The working of electric bicycles is much the same way as an ordinary bicycle except that it is fitted with a small electric motor that is powered by a rechargeable battery. Basically, electric bicycles can be of two types, pedal activated and throttle activated. As the name itself suggests, pedal activated electric bicycles are activated by pedaling and are helpful in commuting long distances and good for exercising, too. In the throttle activated type, the motor is activated by a handle bar mounted throttle. Electric bicycles are available in various styles, frame sizes, components and speed. The batteries required are also of different types like lead acid, nickel metal hydride and lithium ion battery-the choice of the battery depends upon the terrain to be used and the weight of the rider. The most important advantage of electric bicycle is that they are almost zero emission vehicles and thus, eco friendly. They also do no emit noise and help to reduce noise pollution. The recharging of battery takes only a few hours and is affordable. People who want to commute on a small non- polluting vehicle prefer electric bicycles. They   are loved by those who wish to travel outdoors to do a little bit of exercising. Electric bicycles are also preferred to cars in the sense that the user need not search for a place to park the vehicle in the congested traffic, when shopping is done for one or two items. Electric bicycles are also used by children and students who like to go for a joy ride around the town or parks. Normally, the speed of the electric bicycle is around 25 to 30 kilometers per hour, which is certainly faster than walking or even traveling by a car in a busy road which is fully laden with traffic. Electric bicycles can be purchased online too, from the convenience of the home. The maintenance cost of this bicycle is almost nil. There are electric bicycles that are solar charged, too. An ordinary bicycle can also be upgraded to an electric bicycle by just fitting a motor kit that is designed for this purpose. The main purpose of fitting a motor for an electric bicycle is to preserve the energy of the cyclist, as also increase the speed of the cycle and thus make riding a convenient experience. Needless to say, electric bicycles are very efficient and useful and there is no reason why it should not be preferred to other forms of two wheelers.

Selecting A Scooter Or Moped

Shopping for a sporty scooter or moped at a price you can afford? You’ll want to jumpstart your search for the right scooter by considering models from the best-known manufacturers, including Honda, Razor, Schwinn, Suzuki, Vespa, and Yamaha. A good scooter can be surprisingly cheap, too – used gas scooters are available for under $1000, and small electric models can be even more affordable.
While there is a wide range of new scooter makes and models available, you may also want to consider the classic scooters of the past.
By looking around a site like eBay you can often find vintage scooters from makers like Vespa, Lambretta, and Cushman that will let you get around town in style. These older models are coveted by collectors, so be prepared to find yourself in a bidding war with a devotee of classic scooters. And who knows, your first old scooter may be the first acquisition in a vintage moped collection.
Which brings us to the question, what’s the difference between a scooter and moped? The simple answer is, not much. The two categories overlap substantially, though not completely.
By most definitions, many scooters are a type of moped. However, not all moped are scooters. Mopeds are usually defined as a small powered vehicle, usually with two wheels but sometimes with three, with a gas engine of 50 CCs (cubic centimeters) or less, and a top speed of around 30 mph or 50 km/hour. However, in some places vehicles with larger engines and higher speeds also qualify as mopeds.
Mopeds can include small motorcycles, motorbikes, and motor powered bicycles, vehicles most riders would not consider scooters. (In fact, the term “moped” is a combination of the words “motor” and “pedal,” since the earliest models combined bicycle-style pedaling with a small engine.) On the other hand, many scooters have larger engines and higher top speeds than the strictest moped definition allows. So before this gets any more confusing, let’s just conclude by saying that most scooters are mopeds, and some mopeds are scooters. But some aren’t.
If you’re looking for a powered scooter, you can choose between gas and electric models. Gas-powered scooters run off a small two-stroke engine generally not larger than 150 CCs in capacity. All the classic scooter models you’d recognize from movies and TV are gas scooters, and they’re still the most popular choice for commuters and recreational riders. While they get great mileage, their engines are more polluting than their electric counterparts, an important consideration for some green-minded consumers.
Electric scooters have a motor you that runs off rechargeable batteries that can usually be plugged into a standard household outlet. They are a lot cheaper to run than a gas scooter, are very quiet, and produce no polluting exhaust. They can also be ridden inside a building, which you’d never want to do with a gas scooter. Electric scooters also have substantially lower maintenance costs over the long term. However, they can take a while to charge up, they’re not as fast, and they have a much shorter range than gas scooters.
If you’re just looking for a fun way to get around your neighborhood, you may not need a motor scooter at all – a foot-powered kick scooter may be the perfect option. They’re nowhere near as expensive, you’ll get more exercise from your ride, and best of all you’ll feel like a kid again. One of the leading makers of kick scooters is Razor, which offers a variety of models for both children and adults, not to mention a line of small electric scooters.
Once you’ve done your research and decided on the scooter that’s right for you, you should have no trouble finding a great deal at shopping sites like Amazon and eBay. With plenty of experienced online merchants to choose from, your new scooter or moped is just a few clicks away!

Stop by our sites if you’re looking for more information on scooters or mopeds, or looking to start your vintage moped collection.

What Are the Safety and Legal Requirements For Riding an Electric Bicycle?

With the onset of environmental issues, more expensive gas, and the need for exercise, there has been a tremendous increase in the number of electric bikes that are purchased and used every day. The increase in sales of this product has caused many countries and states to look at their legislation in regards to the differences between an electric bike and a motor scooter. The objective of these regulations is to ensure that electric bike users, and other vehicle users, remain as safe as possible while out on the road.
The reason why there is so much controversy comes from deciding safety issues in regards to electric bikes. In recent years, countries like Canada, the United States, and even the United Kingdome have had to pass new laws to include electric bikes. Most state and federal laws recognize that these are not actually a moped or a motorcycle, and they are more like bicycles than anything else. Still some states did need to change certain laws with regards to safely using electric bikes.
Electric Bikes in New South Wales
For instance, in New South Wales motorized bicycles only need to be registered if they run on over 200 watts of electric energy. If the bike is exempt from registration, then the rider must take the same precautions as other normal bicycle riders.
Canadian Regulations
In Canada electric assisted bikes are not considered motorcycles and are limited to only electric motors of at most 500 watts. These bicycles are only allowed to reach speeds of 32km an hour. They are allowed within most jurisdictions and do not have the same restrictions that mopeds or motorcycles have. Therefore just about anyone can use them.
Electric Bike Regulations in China
This bike was recognized as a non-motorized vehicle in 2002 but it was not allowed to be used in certain areas of Beijing until recently. The reason it was banned was because of certain concerns about environmental and safety issues. Those safety issues have to do with vehicular impact.
Electric Bikes in the UK
The maximum power that is allowed on an electric bike, without requiring that it be registered as a motor bike, is 250 watts with a maximum speed of 25 km.
In the U.S.A.
In the United States, electric bikes have the same regulations as regular bikes as long as the power does not exceed 750 W and a speed of 20 miles per hour.
As you can see most battery-powered bicycles function in most countries under the same laws and regulations that govern the use of normal bicycles. This means they don’t have to be registered as motorcycles and they don’t have any special licensing requirements. This makes them easier to use, less worrisome, and great for kids and adults alike.
All in all, government regulations believe electric bikes to be as safe as bicycles but suggest that they be used only where bicycles are used, and that the same precautionary measures such as wearing helmets and knee pads take place.

150 Mpg On A Gas Bicycle

Today more than ever people are looking to save money on transportation. As the cost of gasoline continues to rise you will see more vehicles designed to be less fuel thirsty to requiring no fuel at all. One of these vehicles that are starting to become popular and very affordable are motorized bicycles. These are fully functional bicycles that have engines attached to them and get up to 150 miles per gallon. I have been seeing them sporadically around town and they always catch my eye as they wiz by. They are usually on simple beach cruisers and mountain bikes with riders of all ages. In the summer of 2008 during the peak of the gas prices, I decided to build a motorized bicycle. I had recently purchased a mountain bike and decided to put one of these 2-cycle engine kits on my mountain bike, which took many hours to complete. The build was challenging for me as I have never done this before, but rewarding because of the joy it is to ride. Also not needing a license to ride these motorized bicycles was a plus, as I wanted to avoid dealing with licensing. What is required in order to ride a motorized bike is that you be 16 years of age or older and always wear a helmet. So, now when I want to get around town I can jump on the bike and go for a cruise. The motor does not take away the functionality of the bicycle. I can pedal the bicycle with the motor turned off just as if it were a normal bicycle, or when I get tired of pedaling turn the motor on. This is possible because the motor has a separate drive chain from the normal bicycle chain. This feature is important to me because I can get exercise when I want and not have to switch bicycles. Riding the bike without the motor on is also important when you are in areas that don’t allow them or quiet areas. Operation of these bikes is really simple and requires you to pedal and release the clutch while giving it throttle to turn the motor on. To turn the motor off you just disengage the clutch and push the engine kill button, that’s it. They are single speeds and come with a standard 44-tooth rear sprocket, which is the best for all around riding. These bikes can be easily modified to go faster, but with the standard 44-tooth sprockets you can reach speeds of 20+ mph even with riders weighing 260 pounds, very impressive! I now can leave my car parked more because I have an alternate means of transportation and most importantly I am not spending as much in gasoline, which makes me feel like I made a wise investment. 1000 miles later the motorized bicycle is still running great and has proven to be bulletproof. Maintenance has been light and simple as it is continuing to prove to be a great investment. I also found some great support info through a company in Northern California who sells assembled motorized bicycles and ships nationwide. On their support page they have frequently asked question that are very informative. For question they also have a live chat area and other ways to contact them. They also touch on the significance of the green affect you will have on the environment riding one of these small engine bicycles instead of driving when possible.

The Author says it’s worth it to take a look at their pictures, videos and FAQ’s from their website if you are considering such a vehicle in the future. Visit: http://www.savegasmoney17.com to find out more.
