Going “green” has never been more fun.
A friend of mine recently advised me that we should consider doing a green directory on LinxStreet. I told him that, while I appreciated his advice, he obviously had never visited our website. He did not quite get my jab. I explained that if he had ever visited LinxStreet, he would already know that all of our directories so far are all green! He still didn’t get it, and I believe that he thought that I was making a sarcastic remark about the color of our logo. — > ![]()
I finally had to break it down for him. The most energy efficient mode of transportation will probably always be human powered (walking and bicycling), but alternative modes of transportation, such as mopeds, scooters and motorized bicycles, are one of the best ways that we can be greener and use less energy. I’m not making this up either! A lot of other websites have been talking about how green mopeds, scooters, and motorized bicycles can be. The average scooter gets 60-80 miles per gallon, mopeds gets 90-110 miles per gallon, and motorized bicycles get 90-150 miles per gallon. To really put this in perspective, considering that the average car got 24.7 miles per gallon in 2004, that means that 2-4 scooters, or 5 mopeds, or 5-7 motorized bicycles could ride the same distance for the same gas!
On a side note, in researching for this blog, I found two great new sites for our motorized bicycle directory, Extreme Green Cycling and Green Earth Choppers!
Now, we know that your average hybrid car does have some advantages to alternative transportation vehicles, such as greater protection from the elements, but driving a Prius isn’t nearly as much fun as riding a motorized bicycle! Seriously though, the next category of directories we are going to tackle will be green products. Since the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act that President Obama signed into law on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, contained some hefty tax credits for energy efficient home improvements such as geothermal heat pumps, solar panels, solar water heaters, small wind energy systems, and fuel cells, I expect that a lot of American’s will be thinking green when they start considering how to invest in their home.
We will also be adding directories for other green related stuff like:
- Organic products
- Eco friendly products
- Socially Responsible products
- Recycling/Recycled products
- Fair Trade products
- Renewable Energy
- Renewable Resources
Remember, we are small though. We have to take one category at a time. Want to help us out? Submit your suggestions for good green websites.
